Pat Coogan will leave Notre Dame ahead of next season, leaving head coach Marcus Freeman with another issue after three teammates opted to enter the transfer portal

Notre Dame lost another offensive lineman to the transfer portal on Thursday. At least this time, the player in question was a special-teamer and not a starter.

Freeman is regarded as one of the best young coaches in the game, and the culture that he has created in South Bend since taking over for Brian Kelly at Notre Dame is second to none. Because of that, these transfers from starters raise eyebrows, to say the least.

On Wednesday, the Irish saw three players enter the portal, offensive lineman Sam Pendleton, and a pair of wide receivers in Deion Colzie and Jayden Thomas. On Thursday, the exodus continued, as offensive lineman Rocco Spindler and Pat Coogan have now entered the portal and will play their final season somewhere other than South Bend.

Notre Dame football is picking up four players from the transfer portal, after defeating Penn State in the College Football Playoff.

Over the last couple of days, we have seen six former Notre Dame players opt for the transfer portal. That included wide receiver Jayden Thomas, who had previously been an important cog in the Irish passing game over the last few seasons.

South Bend, Ind. – Notre Dame offensive lineman Pat Coogan, who started 26 games over the last two seasons and often served as the team's pregame hype man, is transferring. Coogan announced his intentions on social media Thursday and will have one year of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.
