Rwanda-backed rebels say they plan to take fight to DR Congo’s capital
Rwanda-backed rebels who captured eastern Democratic Republic of Congo’s largest city said on Thursday they want to take their fight to the far-off capital, Kinshasa, while Congo’s president called for a massive military mobilisation to resist the rebellion and his defence minister rejected calls for talks.
In Goma’s Kahembe neighborhood, nestled at the edge of the city near the Rwandan border, signs of Rwanda-backed M23 rebels’ takeover are clear to see.
The rebels, which Rwanda denies supporting, have long been funded at least in part by the illicit mineral trade.
