President Donald Trump “will do the right thing” and support aid for wildfire-ravaged Southern California, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Wednesday during a visit to Washington that includes stops at the White House and Capitol.

State Farm General, California’s largest insurance provider, has requested an emergency interim rate hike averaging 22% for homeowners from state officials on Monday, citing a “dire” financial situation after destructive Los Angeles wildfires last month.

California's largest private insurer, State Farm, on Monday urged the state's insurance regulator to approve an emergency hike in rates to help offset the hefty payouts the company is making after devastating wildfires in Los Angeles last month.

It comes after water shortages allegedly hampered firefighting efforts in Los Angeles—a claim that state officials deny.

After the tragic wildfires in Southern California, President Trump often attributed the disaster to what he said was a lack of water being sent from the northern part of the state, and vowed to fix the problem.
